LAKEMOOR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN PROJECT

The Village of Lakemoor is partnering with CMAP’s Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program to begin the interactive, community-based process of updating its comprehensive plan. The plan will build on Lakemoor’s key assets and will provide guidance for decisions on topics such as land use, transportation, housing, and open space.

A New Comprehensive Plan for Lakemoor

Originally formed as a summer vacation destination, the Village of Lakemoor grew as visitors decided to settle in this community and enjoy its assets and natural scenery. True to its name, Lakemoor surrounds Lily Lake and includes a number of small lakes, ponds, wetlands, and natural preserves within and adjacent to its boundary. Over the last 15 years, Lakemoor has experienced new residential development, primarily north of Route 120.

The Village of Lakemoor is now embarking on an interactive, community-based process of updating its comprehensive plan. The comprehensive plan will provide a framework to make informed investment decisions to address current community issues and reach long-term goals. Together, the Village of Lakemoor, community stakeholders, and CMAP will explore opportunities in land use planning, residential and commercial development, transportation, parks and open space, and numerous other aspects important to the village’s prosperity. The comprehensive plan will identify and build upon the community’s assets and identify ways to support regional goals from the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan.

The process to update the comprehensive plan includes three phases. The first phase includes a detailed analysis of existing land uses, resources, and community facilities, as well as gathering initial public input regarding the issues and opportunities in the Village. During the second phase, the community will create a shared vision for the future and identify specific goals and recommendations to achieve that vision. The third phase will develop an implementation strategy intended to help the community put the plan’s recommendations into action.
