A Letter from the Village President
Dear Residents,
It’s hard to believe that 2007 is winding down already. The beautiful weather we had for all our events was great.
Our fireworks artist, Larry Brodin, gave us an outstanding performance. We know he spends the whole year planning Lakemoor’s spectacular display. This year was the best !!
Lakemoorfest was a huge success !! Trustee Colin McIntyre and our billing clerk, Terry Gaylord, coordinate all the many efforts of our Public Works employees, our Police Force, and all our volunteers making it very special for you, our residents.
Trustee Ralph Brindise, family and volunteers had a terrific Lakemoor Dollars for Scholars Car Show September 9th. Graduating seniors, be sure to contact Ralph for an application if you will be attending college or a trade school. The scholarships are for Lakemoor residents. Ralph works all year to make it special for you. I think he passes our flyers at all the car shows held in Illinois. We had 121 cars this year plus 17 more that came after registration.
Our Halloween Party and Visit with Santa are coming up. Details are inside the newsletter.
THE LIGHT OF FREEDOM BURNS BRIGHTLY IN OUR WORLD TODAY BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE AND SACRIFICE OF AMERICA’S MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE SENT TO OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN DEPLOYED IN IRAQ AND ALL OVER THE WORLD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY AND COMMITMENT.
FROM ALL OF US, TO ALL OF YOU, BEST WISHES FOR A HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON.
WE HAVE A FANTASTIC 2008 TO LOOK FORWARD TO !

ROAD IMPROVEMENTS will begin September 17, 2007 on Willow, Riverside, Venice and Sunset. Please be patient during construction and we apologize for the inconvenience.
MAILBOX INSTALLATION: Please make sure that your mailbox is securely fastened and is not protruding over the street. If the mailbox hangs over the curb and into the street, it is in danger of being damaged or knocked over by heavy snow coming off the snowplow. Regulations concerning the proper height and distance from the street are set by the United States Postal Service.
If mailboxes are improperly placed, the Village will not be responsible for any damage to the mailbox which occurs during snowplowing.
In addition, customers must keep the approach to their mailboxes clear of obstructions to allow safe access for delivery. If USPS employees are impeded in reaching a mail receptacle, the postmaster may withdraw delivery service.
REMEMBER TO CALL J.U.L.I.E. BEFORE YOU DIG 1-800-892-0123
REMINDERS
Please report streetlight outages and location to the Public Works Department so the appropriate ComEd facility can be contacted.
Building or Remodeling? Remember to apply for a building permit before starting on projects including roofs, sheds, decks and fences at least 10 to 14 days prior to work. Failure to obtain a permit could result in a fine.
It is the season for burning leaves and small branches. Please remember fires must be regulated and monitored. Fires must be 20 feet from any building, and it is unlawful to burn trash or waste matter. Do not burn on the roadways, it will destroy the pavement. Please be considerate of your neighbors. Don’t forget it is unlawful to burn on December 25th or January 1st.
Chief of Police, Wallace Frasier-815-385-4111
With schools back in session please remember to drive with caution as there will be a lot of young children going to busses in the mornings and coming home after getting off the bus in the afternoon. Remember to stop for extended school bus stop arms.
Here’s a little tip for everyone. Put your keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off and the horn will continue to sound until either your turn it off or the car battery dies. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It’s a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep; honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key bob chair. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house odds are they won’t stick around. After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and the criminal won’t want that. Also remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.
Identity Theft
Identity theft happens when someone pretends to be you by using your personal information when applying for loans, credit cards or leases. The thief takes advantage of your good credit record, leaving behind bad credit in your name. The loss to consumers and institutions due to identity theft totals millions of dollars each year. To report ID theft, immediately call the Police Department at 815 385 4111.
Here are some ways a thief gets your personal information – Stealing your purse or wallet; pilfering information such as a bank statements from your mail box; poising as your employer, loan officer or landlord to get your credit reports; going through your trash for credit card or loan applications; watching transactions at ATM machines to capture your PIN.
An easy way to limit your chances of getting your identity stolen is to safe guard your personal information. It’s a good idea to buy a shredder to shred personal documents. Review your financial statements regularly and carefully. The quicker you catch identity theft, the less likely you’ll incur a major hassle or expense.
The Police Department encourages residents to be our “extra eyes and ears” and report suspicious activity or thefts immediately. To continue the quality of life in our community, by working together we can make a difference.
As a reminder vehicle tags should be displayed on all vehicles registered to Lakemoor or permanently housed or stored in Lakemoor. They were due on May 1. New residents have 30 days to purchase a vehicle tag from the time they move to town. All residents have 30 days to display a vehicle tag on a new vehicle. There is now a late fee that is being assessed. The fine if you are ticketed is $25.00 and you will still be assessed a late fee when you purchase the vehicle tag.
Don’t forget to notify the Police Department if you find it necessary to occasionally park a vehicle on the street over night for whatever reason. Local Ordinances prohibit vehicles from being parked on the street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Overnight Parking ABC
The Police Department has responded to a series of vehicle break-ins occurring between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. All of the break-ins involved vehicles that were parked in driveways of single family residences and all of the vehicles were left unlocked. Personal items and loose change left in the vehicles were taken.
The Police request that all residents in an effort to reduce and eliminate these thefts keep the following in mind when parking vehicles overnight:
Always park and lock your vehicle in the garage;
Be sure and remove all valuables from the vehicle; and
Close and lock your vehicle at all times even in the garage.
Did you know that the Village has an ordinance dealing with?
The length that grasses can be. Property owners are reminded that they need to cut their grass if it exceeds 8” in length.
Vehicles left out side have to have valid license plated and a valid Village sticker. They also need to be capable of moving under their own power.
Garbage and trash have to be contained in a secure container so wind or animals can not scattered it around.
Houses need to have the house number displayed and visible in no less than 3” letters.
Burning/Bond Fires – Only natural wood and yard waste can be burned, NO GARBAGE OR TRASH. Be sure to maintain surveillance on the fire so it does not spread. Be considerate of your neighbors and don’t “smoke them out” by allowing the smoke to blow their way.
Mobile homes, trailers and boats must be stored in the rear yard only. They also need to have a valid license and Village sticker. They can not be used for sleeping purposes.
Dogs, cats and other pets must be properly vaccinated and licensed. They are not permitted to run at large. Pet owners when walking their pets should pick up after the pet. Dogs should not be left outside to bark and disturb neighbors regardless of the time of day but especially in the evening hours.
Discharging any fire arm, air rifle or pistol, cross bow or bow and arrow in the corporate limits of Lakemoor
Violations of Lakemoor Ordinances can result in a fine of $25.00 to $1,000.00. Everyone works hard for their money, no one wants to spend it on fines.
It is a violation of State Statutes for anyone to ride any motorized vehicle on a sidewalk. Motorized vehicles that do not meet requirements in the Illinois Vehicle Code may not be driven on the street. These included but are not limited to mini bikes, scooters, pocket rockets, go carts, snowmobiles, etc. These may be driven on private property as long as you have obtained the property owners permission. If you have any questions contact the Police Department. Only vehicles appropriately licensed by the State may be driven on a street or highway by a person possessing a valid drivers license.
We have added a few more numbers to our list from the last Newsletter. Hope this helps you, just remember the Village Hall is not a phone directory but will try to help you as much as we can.
