A Letter from the Village President

 Dear Residents,

Happy 2008  Happy Snow !

Hats off to our Public Works for the

fantastic job they are doing on all the

snow and ice we’ve had. A special

thank you to Charlie, Les, Ken, Kevin,

Brian, Craig, Wayne & Joe.

Our shopping center on 12 and 120

Is shaping up. You can keep updated

by going to www.Tucker Development.

com. Double click on leasing opportunities and below the map click on all properties and click on The Shops of Lakemoor and then to availabilities/site plan and fact sheet. You can view the complete layout and the negotiations in progress.

The Platford Group is ready to go ahead with the mall on 120 – a little East of Darrell Road on the South side.

The Lincoln Road project is coming  to start up next to Stilling Woods at Chapel Hill road.

We are going to be busy this year with “good things happening” to bring tax revenues and jobs to Lakemoor.

Think Spring !

 Virginia

.IMPORTANT !!!!

Our snowplows are designed to discharge snow to the curb and inevitably in the driveways.  Please do not push the snow from your driveway into the street.  Take caution when approaching a snowplow, because of their size and weight, they require more room on the roadway and cannot swiftly maneuver or stop.

                Public Works Director, Charles Schmidt—815-385-2936

                               PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Do not throw snow into the streets.  Shovel to side of driveway’s.  With spring around the corner try to tidy up yards.

Please give us a call on the following:

  1. Street lights are out

  2. Pot Holes that appear—the road crew will patch as soon as possible.

Be careful as spring approaches and we have high winds and strong storms not to go near any down power lines, please call ComEd—800-Edison I.

Just a reminder when it snows thru Thursday into Friday morning.  Plows will try not to hit garbage cans, please pull back to the house as soon as possible.

The Village is responsible for snowplowing all dedicated Village Roads, but the owner’s are responsible for maintaining the mailboxes free of snow for delivery by the postal employees.

Please be patient, we will make every effort to clean all the roadways.  If you feel your roadway has been missed, we wouldn’t miss any road on purpose, please call the Village Hall at 815-385-2936.

Reminder:  Please check the ice thickness on Lily Lake before allowing children to play or ice-skate on it.  All children should be supervised at all times when out on the lake.  Please use caution at all times.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

The Village Hall would like to thank you all who responded to our request on the Lakemoorfest Fireworks last year.  The New Horizon Pyrotechnics, Inc. were very please with all the great responses they got.

APOLOGY

I want to apologize for leaving out Lakemoor Golf Club as one of our vendors for Lakemoorfest 2007.    Hope you accept my apology and hopefully we will see you again at Lakemoorfest 2008.

New Law for Teen Drivers

Major provisions of a new law that became effective January 1, 2008:

q        Extending the permit phase form three months to nine months.

q        Shifting the nighttime driving restrictions form 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from midnight to 11p.m. on weekends for all drivers under the age of 18 and those who fail to graduate from initial licensing phase.

q        Doubling the period form 6 months to 12 months that restricts a new driver to a maximum of one unrelated teen passenger.

q        Requiring drivers under age 19 who are ticketed for traffic violations to appear before a judge with a parent or guardian to receive court supervision.

q        Ticketing the passengers age 15 to 20 , in addition to the driver who violate the passenger restriction law.

q        Requiring student drivers to complete a minimum of 6 hours of actual on the street driving with a certified driver education instructor.

Need help installing the Child Safety Seat in your vehicle?  Contact the Lakemoor Police Department and Sgt. Spoerry will be glad to assist you.

At night be sure to secure your vehicle by rolling up all windows and locking all doors. Remove valuables from the car and do not leave them in open view on the seats.  The Police Department has received numerous reports of thefts from unlocked cars parked in driveways over night.  Be sure your garage door is closed at night and when you leave your home.

With the snow and ice that we will be getting this winter season remember to allow a little extra time to arrive at your destination.  Be sure to clear all your windows and mirrors of ice and snow.  Remove excess snow from around your taillights and head lights.  Give yourself extra distance between you and the car in front of you.

Check your vehicle brakes, batteries, exhaust systems, anti-freeze, windshield solution, windshield wiper blades and convert to winter weight oil.  Also check to see that the tire installed on drive wheels have good tread.  Equipment for cars can include sand, salt, small shovel, snow scrapper/brush, blanket, jumper cables, first-aid kit and a flashlight.

If you get stuck, pour sand, salt or gravel around the drive wheels to give them something to grab on to.  Use a small shovel to remove large accumulations of snow and ice from all wheels.  Remember – Do Not Spin Wheels Excessively – gradual acceleration will provide greater results and control of your vehicle.

If you skid, do not “hit” the brake (non-ABS equipped vehicles), take your foot off the accelerator and turn your steering wheel in the direction that you want your front wheels to go.  For ABS equipped vehicles apply the brake evenly but remember not to pump the pedal.  Drive cautiously, don’t tailgate, and remember to reduce your speed accordingly.

March and April 2008                        National Library Week  April 13-19!

Referendum Notes:

While we are disappointed in the outcome of the referendum, we are optimistic about the future. It’s common knowledge that this community values their Library.  While working toward this goal we saw the commitment and dedication from our patrons. We saw them get fired up and know that with their help, we will remain a vital partner in their educational and entertainment needs. Unfortunately, the economy has put many in the mindset of saving and not spending. We know this prevented many from voting yes and we can empathize with them. Hopefully, the economy will improve and we can ask for their support in better times.  We know this is not a reflection of our services, but a reflection of the time. In times like these residents may not be able to afford their internet connection or to purchase their entertainment choices.  This makes your local Library even more important.  We will be here for those of you job searching with our electronic resources and daily newspapers. And, yes, we’ll be here for your entertainment options too!
