Public Works Director, Charles Schmidt
Now that winter has arrived, I would like to offer some snow removal tips for all of our residents.
q Please no parking on Village streets after 2 “ of snowfall. It is much more difficult for plowing and clean-up after a snowfall. Vehicle’s in the roadway hinder the snowplowing efforts for all our residents.
q Help the children by clearing the snow off of the sidewalks at the intersections near the bus stops so they have a safe place to stand.
q When snowfall comes in conjunction with garbage pick-up day it is very difficult to maneuver around the trash containers. Please remove them from the road-way as quickly as possible.
q Please instruct children not to play in the piles of snow following removal. It is dangerous when the plows return to push back the snow or remove the snow if required.
q If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, be sure to leave the hydrant exposed and not covered by snow for obvious safety reasons.
q The Village is responsible for snowplowing all dedicated Village Roads, but the owner’s are responsible for maintaining the mailboxes free of snow for delivery by the postal employees.
q Please be patient, we will make every effort to clean all the roadways. If you feel your roadway has been missed, we wouldn’t miss any road on purpose, please call the Village Hall at 815-385-2936.
Reminder: Please check the ice thickness on Lily Lake before allowing children to play or ice-skate on it. All children should be supervised at all times when out on the lake. Please use caution at all times.
Chief of Police, Wallace Frasier
Seat belts save lives and reduce the severity of injuries if you are involved in an accident. Use your seat belts at all times and secure children in approved child restraint systems.
On occasion you might be contacted by the Police Department in the middle of the night to inform you that your garage door is open. The Police Department does this as a courtesy in an effort to avoid possible burglaries, or worse, a home invasion. An open garage door is an invitation to criminals.
Lakemoor has an ordinance that prohibits parking on the street between 2AM and 6AM. If you have any questions about when and where you can legally park just call the Police Department.
The following are commonly asked questions that we are unable to help you as residents with.
If you lose power to your home we are unable to tell you why or when it may turn back on. You would need to contact ComEd at (800)-334-7661. If the phone number is busy please keep trying.
We have had people contact us and ask if we can run a license plate and or give them the information. We do not provide any one with this information. You can contact the Secretary of State for that information (847) 362-7171 or (815) 338 3109.
Once a traffic ticket is written to a driver you can contact the court at (815)-338-2098 for information as follows: court dates, fines, continuing court hearings. Also if you need to exchange your drivers license for cash bond the Police Department only hold them for a very limited amount of time, after that they are sent to the court house and it takes 10 days for them to be processed before you can receive your license back.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has a web site for registered sex offenders. That web site is www.co.lake.il.us/sheriff. McHenry County does not maintain a separate web site for this but you can look up registered sex offenders for McHenry County on the State Police web site at www.isp.state.il.us.
Law enforcement is a difficult and dangerous profession. Sometimes the safety procedures that officers use may appear unnecessary, but they are designed to ensure both your safety and the officers safety. But you should know what your rights and responsibilities are if you are stopped for a traffic or other violation.
Your Rights
q You should be treated with dignity and respect. The officer or officers involved should be courteous and should tell you why you have been stopped
q Under no circumstances may Lakemoor Police officers ask you to pay fine for a traffic violation at the time it occurs. Asking for such payment, as well as making one is illegal. This should not be confused with being asked to post an appearance bond to assure you appearance in court.
You have a right to have an inappropriate situation addressed. If you believe that an officer has acted inappropriately during a traffic stop or other encounter you should report that conduct as soon as possible to the office of the Lakemoor Police Department Chief of Police (815 385 4111). Try to have as much information as possible about the officer, including his or her name, star number and any numbers on the squad car as well as the exact date, time and location of the occurrence.
Your Responsibilities
q Slow down. Pull over as soon as you can safely do so. If the police vehicle is unmarked and you doubt that the driver is an officer, drive below the speed limit to a well lit, populated place and pull over or go to the police station or attract the attention of a uniformed officer.
q Stay in the driver’s seat with both hands clearly in sight on the steering wheel. Do not exit your car unless asked to do so.
q Comply with the officer’s request to see your drivers license, registration and proof of insurance. If they are in the glove compartment or under the seat let the officer know and then follow his or her directions before retrieving them.
Avoid speaking in a confrontational manner or walking away from police officers, even if you think they are wrong. Cooperate during the incident.
ISLAND LAKE PARKS & RECREATION

DO YOU HAVE YOUR CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS?
Illinois requires carbon monoxide alarms. Homeowners and landlords throughout Illinois will be required to install carbon monoxide (CO) detectors by January 1, 2007 under legislation passed last spring. The Village of Lakemoor also passed an Ordinance (07-O-02) Chapter 24 requiring all homeowners to have one in their homes.
Public Act 094-0741 requires every dwelling be equipped with at least one approved carbon monoxide alarm, in operating condition, within 15 feet of every sleeping room. This alarm may be battery operated, plug-in with battery back-up or wired into the home’s AC power with a secondary battery back-up.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. It’s produced when any fossil fuel, including natural gas, is burned. When fossil fuels do not burn properly, CO can build up and cause sickness-even death.
Safety measures:
q Never heat your home with your gas range or oven.
q Never burn charcoal inside your home or garage.
q Always open the chimney flue when you use your fireplace.
q Never run a combustion engine, such as your car, lawn mower or snow blower, in enclosed areas.
Install a CO detector:
q Install a CO detector near all bedrooms in the house.
q Do not install a detector near your kitchen or garage or in a room with a furnace.
q If your detector goes off and you feel ill, leave the house and call 911 or the local fire department. If you do not feel ill, push your detector’s reset button. If the alarm goes off again after a few minutes, open the windows, leave the house and call 911 or the local fire department.
Recognize the symptoms of CO poisoning:
q Dizziness, nausea, headache and coughing
q Irregular heartbeat
q Pale skin with cherry rid lips and ear tips
Know what to do if you suspect CO poisoning:
Get fresh air and stay outside.
