Mc Henry Animal Control announces
“Paws to Recycle” Program

Mc Henry County Animal Control is currently participating in a nationwide aluminum can recycling program to benefit humane societies and animal shelters.  This is the first year that they have participated in the “Paws to Recycle” program.  Collected cans will raise funds for the shelter’s many programs while earning free pet food for the animals.  Animal control will also compete with other shelters nationwide for an additional $3,000 – to be awarded for the most pounds of aluminum cans recycled and the most community involvement.

Aluminum cans will be accepted at the Mc Henry County Animal Shelter at 11608 Banford Road, Woodstock.  Hours of acceptance is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  This program goes from now until November 30, 1999.

This fundraiser will not only help the environment, but will assist many animals that are in need of shelter.

Time Changes October 31st , 1999

Check your Smoke Detector Batteries!

Don’t forget to set all the clocks back one hour on Sunday morning to account for the time change.

This is also a great time to check the batteries in your smoke detector.  Batteries should be changed every six months.  When you test your smoke detector, you should also take time to practice a fire drill at home.

Burning is allowed in the Village of Lakemoor:
It is the season for burning leaves and small branches.  Please remember fires must be regulated and monitored.  Fires must be 20 feet from any building, and it is unlawful to burn trash or waste matter. Do not burn on the roadways, it will destroy the roadway pavement.  Please be considerate of your neighbors.  Don’t forget it is unlawful to burn on December 25th and January 1st.

Reminders for the upcoming snow season:
Snow Plowing season is right around the corner.  Please remember all of the roads cannot be plowed at the same time.  The priorities are to open the roadways and widening of the intersections.  Your mailboxes should be secure to handle the snow thrown during the plowing of the roadways. The clearing of  the mailbox areas is the property owner’s responsibility.

If a resident sees a street light out, please call the Village Hall at 385-2936 and we will contact Commonwealth Edison to have it replaced.

Mc Henry Nunda Public Library News

Save Saturday October 23rd for fun!  The Madhatters will be here to perform at 10:30 a.m.  This interactive children’s group uses children’s books to act out stories and includes lots of audience participation.  Wear your favorite hat to be included in a drawing for a book.  Saturday, October 23rd is also the day the library’s annual Fall Festival.  This program will begin at 11:30 a.m.  This is the day for three-legged races, pumpkin faces and much more.  You must register for this program at the library.

Are you a POKEMON fan?  The library is hosting a POKEMAN TRADING SESSION.  October 26th at 5:00 p.m.  You must register for this program and young children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  The session will last approximately 30 minutes.

Starting mid-November, the library will have an assortment of CD-ROM programs for children to use at home.  Since there are a very limited number available, check out times will be one per family for a time period of one week.  These programs were provided by a grant from the Illinois State Library.

The library is looking for Arthur Fans!  We are starting two new Arthur book clubs.  The first group is for ages 3 to 6 .  This group will share an Arthur picture book and then complete a project based on the story.  A very different group is also forming now for beginner readers.  This group will read an Arthur chapter book independently , then come together to discuss the story.  There may also be a project that accompanies the book.  These clubs are just forming now, and you must register for them at the library.

Move over OPRAH!!  Watch for an adult book discussion group to begin soon.  This book will be provided by the library and about once per month a new book will be selected.  Registration is required.

The McHenry Nunda Public Library is located at the corner of Route 120 and Lily Lake Road.
