SUPPORT YOUR ARMED FORCES

Following are service people called in to the Village Hall in response to our request in the last newsletter.  All of the residents of Lakemoor can let these people know how much we appreciate them by sending a card or note of thanks as their mission continues.

Any Veteran, particularly those in VA Hospitals would also be happy to hear from you.  Drop a note to “American Veteran” at a VA hospital address.  They will enjoy your thoughtfulness.

  MOSQUITO ABATEMENT

The Village utilizes an integrated approach to mosquito control to reduce nuisance mosquitoes and reduce the potential of mosquito borne disease such as West Nile Virus.  The Village’s multi-step program emphasizes control of the mosquito larvae in their breeding sites to prevent development.

Standing water that will remain for 7 days in your yard should be reported to the “Mosquito Hotline”.  The “Mosquito Hotline” is the citizen response system installed by the Village’s contractor, Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management to report standing water, obtain information regarding the West Nile Virus or be placed on the Call Notification List.  The hotline number is (800) 942-2555.

*Whenever outdoors between dusk and dawn, wear shoes, socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.  Loose-fitting, light colored clothing is best.

  * Use mosquito repellent containing 25 to 35 percent DEET when it is necessary to be outdoors, applied sparingly to exposed skin or clothing as indicated on repellent label.  Consult a physician before using repellents on young children.

  * Check for and repair any tears in residential screens, including porches and patios.

*Eliminate stagnant water in bird baths, ponds, flower pots, wading pools, old tires and any other receptacles in which mosquitoes might breed.

*Keep grass cut short and shrubbery well-trimmed around the house.

*  Since dead birds (crows, blue jays and raptors) can be the first warning that West Nile Virus is present in the area, report dead birds on your property to the County Health Department.

Community Information

BOAT STICKERS
Residents  -  Free
Nonresidents  -  $30

For enforcement purposes, all boats using the Route 120 boat ramp must have a sticker.  Nonresident fees help defray the cost of ramp maintenance.  Boats should be cleaned before and after lake use to deter the transfer or reintroduction of contaminants.

.
Yardwaste Collection

Jensen Disposal has two yardwaste collection options available.  All yardwaste must be in approved yardwaste bags (no plastic bags will be accepted) or a 30 gallon container.  The cans or bags shall be clearly marked “yardwaste/grass” or they will not be picked up by the garbage company.  Bundles of brush can be no larger than 2’ X 4’ in size and bundled with twine.  No yardwaste can exceed 50 pounds.

* A resident may purchase a subscription for   yardwaste pickup for a charge of $42.50 billed directly to the resident.  The subscription period is April 1st until November 30th.  They will pick up a maximum of four items per week.

*The Village Hall sells yardwaste stickers for $1.00 each (sold in sheets of 5), and the stickers can be affixed to each bag, can or bundle for collection of yardwaste. (Burning of yardwaste is allowed in the Village)

Reminder:  Village Ordinance considers grass in excess of 8 inches to be a public nuisance.
THANKS FOR MOWING!!!

Reminder:  When walking your pet, it must be on a leash and you must clean up the droppings.

LAKE MAINTENANCE

As in past years, the lake will again be treated to control unwanted weeds and algae.  This treatment poses no threat to humans and animals.  The Health Department also tests water quality on a regularly scheduled basis.  If a concern arises regarding water quality and safety the lake will be posted accordingly.  Do not handle lake vegetation.  Any fragments of Eurasian Watermilfoil can float to other parts of the lake, root and spread rapidly.

PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT

BUILDING PERMITS are needed for fences, sheds, decks, patios, roofing, porches, driveways and siding.  Check with the building department before starting any project.  Building permits take a minimum of 48 hours to be issued after receipt of application documents.  Application documents include a completed application form, survey, plans and architectural approval.  Having all documents ready when applying for a permit will alleviate processing delays.  SWIMMING POOL regulations are available at the Village Hall.  These controls are intended to provide protection against potential drowning and near-drowning to children under the age of five by restricting pool access.  These regulations apply to all pools, spas and hot tubs over 24 inches deep.
It is expected that when applying for any building
permit that your utility bill is current.
The beach in Morrison park is open.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  There is no lifeguard on duty.  Let’s keep our parks and beach clean.  Please don’t litter.  Trash cleanup uses valuable time that could be spent on other projects.  Animals are prohibited from the parks and beach.  Animal wastes negatively impact beach water samplings.  Skateboarding is not allowed in the parks, especially on picnic tables.  Parents are responsible and liable for damage caused by their children.  Report vandalism of park facilities and Village property to the Police Department or Public Works Department.
Please report streetlight outages and location to the Public Works Department so the appropriate ComEd facility can be contacted.

* Have a Safe Summer! *

POLICE  DEPARTMENT

When you leave on vacation please notify a neighbor to watch your house, pick up the mail and papers that are delivered.  Leaving an interior light on and using timers is an excellent idea and give the appearance that there is someone home.  Have a neighbor park their vehicle in your drive to give the added appearance that there is someone home.  Be sure to notify the Police Department of the dates you are going to be gone, if anyone has a key to your home in case of an emergency and the name of someone who can contact you if needed.

As a reminder new vehicle tags should now be displayed on all vehicles registered to Lakemoor or permanently housed or stored in Lakemoor.  They were due on May 1.  New residents have 30 days to purchase a vehicle tag from the time they move to town.  All residents have 30 days to display a vehicle tag on a new vehicle.  There is now a late fee that is being assessed.  The fine if you are ticketed is $25.00 and you will still be assessed a late fee when you purchase the vehicle tag.

Don’t forget to notify the Police Department if you find it necessary to occasionally park a vehicle on the street overnight for whatever reason.  Local Ordinances prohibit vehicles from being parked on the street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Proper Disposal of the American Flag

Since September 11, many residents have proudly flown the American Flag to show their patriotism.  Since that time, some of these flags have become worn and tattered and residents might be wondering about the proper disposal method of unserviceable flags.

The VFW and American Legion both accept flags and take care of the proper disposal during an annual ceremony.  The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags was approved by the National Convention of The American Legion meeting in New York in September 1937, and has been an integral part of American Legion ritual since that date.
